Sincere Repentance in the Light of the Holy Quran and Authentic Hadiths (In French)

Sincere Repentance: Must fulfill five conditions (to be accepted), which are:

- Sincerity towards Allah, the Most High: the person must do it only for Allah and in the pursuit of His reward and salvation from His punishment.

- Remorse: for the sin that has been committed, to the point that he is sad for what he has done and wishes he had never done it.

- Stop: immediately from committing the sin. If the sin was against Allah, then he must (1) stop doing it if it was an unlawful act, or (2) hasten to do it if it was an obligation he had neglected. And if the sin was against a creature (such as people), then he must hasten to free himself from it, by ceasing to harm them or by seeking their forgiveness.

- Determination: not to return to this sin again in the future.

Repentance should not come after the time for its acceptance has expired, either through death or the rising of the sun from the west. Allah says: "Repentance is of no avail to those who continue to sin until death comes to one of them and he says, 'Indeed, I have repented now.'" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever repents before the rising of the sun from the west, Allah will accept his repentance." [Reported by Muslim]
